A country, it is for me, a face, a smile, a welcome, a name, much more than the city, the mountains, the forests or the rivers. (Pierre Fillit)
COMUNE DI DAVOLI
Territory, flora and fauna
The mountain area is characterized by lush forests of conifers (pine, fir) and deciduous (oaks, chestnuts, beeches) The underbrush presents the typical vegetation essentially consists of ferns and berries (very common wild strawberries).
The thick layer of fallen leaves in autumn is the ideal habitat for mushrooms present in our forests with numerous species. Colorful meadows of wild flowers enrich the landscape, making it pleasing to the visitor's view.
Along the coast the Mediterranean vegetation prevails, with trees and shrubs, mostly evergreen species, able to withstand the salty winds that blow from the sea (heather, broom, oleander, rosemary, capers). Very common is the broom, which grows in bushes in the driest areas and exposed to the sun.
Between the hills and the sea here is the crops that Homer describes speaking of the palace of King Alcinous (Odyssey VII.115): vineyards, olive groves, citrus trees and a variety of fruit trees.
In this diverse and rich in resources environment are hosted numerous animal species both resident and migratory.
Among the birds, they are very common owls (owl, owl, tawny owl), while the holm oak woods are populated by wild boars, as well as there are foxes, hedgehogs, marmots, dormice, hares, reptiles ...
